Indian rally fizzles out in loss to Marcus
The Waxahachie Indians couldn’t capitalize on late-game opportunities on Friday, as the Tribe ultimately fell to the Flower Mound Marcus Marauders by a score of 55-38.
Marcus would race out to a two-score lead early on a 63-yard touchdown pass by Garrett Nussmeier and a four-yard run by Ty’son Edwards, who finished with a game-high 326 all purpose yards. The Indians would try to keep pace, but the Tribe trailed at intermission by a 27-16 score.
Waxahachie would mount a late effort with two consecutive touchdowns from BJ Hawkins, but the Indians failed to capitalize on a Preston Hodge interception with 8:10 left. The ensuing 10-play, 65-yard Marauder scoring drive would ice the game.
Waxahachie (1-2) opens district 7-6A play this Friday against the DeSoto Eagles (3-0), who are coming off a 49-0 shutout of TAPPS heavyweight Bishop Dunne. Kickoff of the annual Pink Out game is set for 7:30 p.m.
