Indians blown out on Pink Out
The Waxahachie Indians faced a Herculean task in their district 7-6A opener against the undefeated and state-ranked DeSoto Eagles on Friday.
Ultimately, the visitors to Lumpkins Stadium ran away with game, winning by a 55-12 score and tallying 399 rushing yards.
DeSoto raced out to a 27-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of action, and kept the Indian offense in check until Campbell Sullivan found BJ Hawkins with a minute before halftime. However, the Eagles grabbed the momentum back on a five-play, 42-second drive, extending their lead to 34-6 at the break.
On the first play of the second half, Sullivan exited the game with a leg injury after a sack. Despite the best efforts of reliever DJ Hollywood, DeSoto’s damage had been done. The Eagles finished the game with 593 total yards, with Jyison Brown contributing a game-high 133 yards rushing.
Waxahachie (1-3, 0-1 in 7-6A) travels to Cedar Hill to take on the Longhorns (2-2, 1-0), who are coming off a 47-6 win over Grand Prairie. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Longhorn Stadium, and the game will be covered by KBEC.
