Female sports popularity on the rise

The NCAA women’s basketball championship took place on April 2 in Dallas, Texas. The LSU Tigers beat the Iowa Hawkeyes breaking the record for the most points scored in a women’s national championship game and making it LSU’s first championship win ever.

The score was 102-85. The game was the most watched women’s college basketball game on record since 2002 when Connecticut vs. Oklahoma played. Over 5 million viewers watched the matchup.

The main factor that drew people to watch the LSU vs. Iowa game was LSU forward Angel Reese and Iowa Point Gaurd Caitlin Clark. They both are a big inspiration to younger female athletes that want to strive for greatness.

Hopefully, the rising of these two stars will allow future athletes to want to be a part of girls’ or women’s basketball and will eventually become as good as if not better than them. The younger generation can allow more viewers to watch by following in Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark’s footsteps.
