Senior swimmer Cedia Henderson has broken three school records within Waxahachie’s first
three swim meets of the season. Her feats include setting new records in the 100 backstroke,
100 butterfly and 200 freestyle.
Despite breaking three school records, Henderson humbly still feels she has not reached her full
swimming potential.
“I feel like my performance is not at my best right now, but it’s still the beginning of the season
so I won’t be too hard on myself.” Henderson said. “Since breaking a few records, I’m feeling
pretty accomplished. The records give me a goal to reach for each meet.”
Henderson does not think about her records or previous wins as she is standing on the block,
preparing to race.
“Before every race, I just breathe and remind myself I’ve been doing this for half my life so it’s
muscle memory,” she said. “I tell myself to go out there and do what I know.”
One of the goals Henderson has set for herself is to break another school record in the 100
freestyle.
“A record I want to break is the 100 free,” Henderson said. “It’s a faster record so it’ll be a challenge to get, but I’ll
be proud of myself if I do.”
Henderson’s winning spirit in and outside of the pool is an inspiration to other swimmers on the
team.
“For swimmers wanting to improve, having good technique and working hard is important; but
mindset is key,” she said. “Having faith in yourself and being positive will create great outcomes, you are
your biggest competitor.”
Building on Henderson’s already successful swim season, she is sure to take advantage of the
opportunity to break a fourth school record later this month.
