Successful Competition Season

The Cherokee Charmers ended a very successful season at American Dance/Drill Team Nationals. The Charmers competed against multiple different teams and brought home a bunch of trophies.

“This competition season was so successful! We brought home so many trophies and I’m so proud of us,” Junior First Lieutenant Somer Clark said.

The officer awards include 4th runner-up Officer Jazz, 1st runner-up Officer Novelty, 3rd runner-up Officer Lyrical, and NATIONAL CHAMPION Officer Hip Hop. The Charmer Officers also got a Texas Motor Sports WOW Factor Award for Officer Hip Hop, which is only given to 4 dances in the competition.

“I was so surprised and excited when I heard our name called out for the WOW award,” Senior Captain Ellinor Bearden said. “We have wanted this all year and we finally accomplished it.”

The elite team awards include 1st runner-up Elite Kick, NATIONAL CHAMPION Elite Pom, and 1st runner-up Elite Hip Hop. The Charmers were also awarded 5th runner-up Academic Champions.

In the overalls, the officers got 1st runner-up in their class and 6th place Nationals Best of the Best Officers. The elite teams got 2nd runner up in their class.

“I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this competition season,” Senior Lieutenant Emma Moses said. “I will cherish the memories that we have made this year forever.”

With the season coming to an end, preparations for next year begin. The Charmer Officer tryout process began Monday, April 5. The Officer Candidates will try out with a jazz dance and a kick routine. They will also do the traditional “Strut Out”. The Line tryout clinic will be held the week of the 19th from 4:30-6:30. Results for the team will be announced Saturday, April 24.

“I am very excited to see who the new line will be,” Charmer Director Erica Pointer-Wilcox said.
